Steve Spann

With 43 years of experience as a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in the State of Tennessee, I currently serve as President of John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science, a position I've held since 1994. I also founded and own two funeral homes in Tennessee - Humphreys County Funeral Home in Waverly and Spann Funeral Home in Dickson, where I live with my wife Meryl and daughter Madison. I hold an AA from John A. Gupton College, a BS from Lipscomb University, and an MS from Trevecca University.

I am actively engaged in both my local community and professional associations. I have previously served as President of the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association and currently sit on the Board of Directors for the National Funeral Directors Association. Additionally, I've served for six years (four as chair) on the Committee on Accreditation for the American Board of Funeral Service Education, overseeing the accreditation process for fifty-eight mortuary science programs nationwide.

I have been actively involved in several funeral director associations, including the National Funeral Directors Association, Upper Cumberland Funeral Directors Association, and Greater Knoxville Funeral Directors Association. Previously, I served as president of the University of Mortuary Science Education Association and currently serve as treasurer as I have for many years. My leadership experience also extends to local organizations like the Dickson Rotary Club, Charlotte Lions Club, and Dickson Chamber of Commerce Board, as well as the chair for the Finance Committee at First Baptist Church of Dickson.
